Steve Clement and Michael Kirby provide twenty-five years of corporate and government experience in applying a set of basic organization design principles. They build upon a supportive corporate culture and leadership bench to support transformation.

Your Session Leaders have developed and refined a set of practical organizational design principles to facilitate meeting the transformation challenge every modern company faces.

In this Executive Symposium, Michael and Steve will walk you through the critical "Five Steps to Achieving World Class Performance".

Overarching Concept:

In today’s highly competitive environment, change is the new constant - we are surrounded by it. Institutions must not only concentrate on "beating" the competition, they must also simultaneously transform themselves into a new and more effective organizational structure designed specifically to rapidly cope with fast changing economic conditions.

Your session leaders will show you a set of developed and refined organizational design principles which have proved invaluable in transforming existing institutions. These principles are applied in a unique Five Step approach aimed at achieving "world class" performance.

This pre-conference symposium describes these steps in detail and provide concrete examples of how to implement them individually or collectively in your company/institutional setting.

Workshop Purpose and Benefits:

This management workshop will assist company executives in:

  • Achieving short-term “world class” performance levels in order to out-perform key business competitors.
  • Transforming their enterprise through new combinations of concepts, capabilities, people and structures that exploit their company’s competitive advantages and protect against business vulnerabilities thereby sustaining ones strategic position in the global market-place.
  • Adding innovation, creativity and adaptability to ones culture and value system.

Knowledge, insights and diagnostic tools will be shared with you that enable you to apply requisite organizational principles to your respective management systems.

You will leave with an understanding of the critical "Five Steps to Achieving World Class Performance"...
  1. Establishing the Right Organization Structure
  2. Maximizing the Talent of your People
  3. Implementing Effective Business Systems and Processes
  4. Establishing a Supportive Work Culture
  5. Implementing a “World Class” Leadership Development Program
... and how these steps can be applied to in order to transform your organization, while defeating the competition!

Steve Clement

Dr. Stephen D. Clement is founder and President of Organizational Design, Inc. (ODI), of San Antonio, Texas. Organizational Design, Inc. is an international consulting firm founded in 1985 to assist executives in enhancing the profitability and productivity of their respective organizations. The firm holds the belief that building a competitive edge requires that a company establish a requisite organizational structure, define clear roles, assign competent people to such roles and establish clear working relationships. As a consultant to industry, Dr. Clement specializes in the application of basic design principles to the organization of work including key work related processes, and the underlying leadership and management skills required to perform such work effectively.

Stephen developed the design principles used by ODI in partnership with Dr. Elliott Jaques, a world renowned organization expert. Dr. Clement and Dr. Jaques have co-authored a number of publications describing the underlying principle base, including a book titled "Executive Leadership-A Practical Guide to Managing Complexity". Dr. Clement has over thirty years of experience in the organizational development field.

Dr. Stephen D. Clement, was recently appointed a special advisor to the Honorable Dr. Francis J. Harvey, Secretary of the Army. Dr. Clement is working with a special task force created by Secretary Harvey to overhaul senior staffs within the Department of Army. This includes the Pentagon Headquarters staff and comparable staffs at major subordinate commands throughout the world. The purpose of this restructuring effort is to transform the existing headquarters staff organizations to better support the on-going transformation of the field fighting forces. The changes are designed to decrease the size of the existing headquarters bureaucracy. These changes are also intended to decrease the cycle time of the existing decision making process while concomitantly increasing the Army's overall response rate to rapidly changing military situations.

Dr. Clement is currently serving as a member of the Army Science Board where he chairs a special task force focusing on ways to institutionalize innovation and creativity in the U.S. Army.
